About Lesson
ITIL 4 introduces seven guiding principles that help organizations make decisions and set directions:
- Focus on value: Services must always be aligned with the needs and expectations of customers and stakeholders. Everything should contribute to this value.
- Start where you are: This principle encourages organizations to assess their current capabilities and existing services before introducing new changes. It helps avoid starting from scratch and builds on existing assets.
- Progress iteratively with feedback: Break work down into smaller, manageable chunks, and iterate quickly. Regular feedback loops ensure adjustments are made frequently and appropriately.
- Collaborate and promote visibility: Work across departments and teams. Transparency in operations leads to better decision-making and faster issue resolution.
- Think and work holistically: Every decision should consider the entire system, not just isolated processes. Understanding the interdependencies in the organization helps avoid creating silos and improves overall efficiency.
- Keep it simple and practical: Simplify processes and procedures wherever possible. Complexity often leads to inefficiency, so ensure processes are designed to add value without unnecessary steps.
- Optimize and automate: Leverage automation and technology to remove repetitive tasks, optimize workflows, and improve service quality.
